The bodies up for election are voted for by the students entitled to vote in general, free, equal, direct and secret elections. Elections are held according to lists drawn up on the basis of nominations (tickets). Individual candidacies are possible. The election is open to the public. The election takes place using ballot boxes. All eligible voters for the elections to one of the above-mentioned bodies form a constituency. Each voter has one vote for one candidate from one ticket for each body for which he or she is entitled to vote.
The seats are distributed according to the Hare-Niemeyer method: The total number of seats multiplied by the number of votes received by the ticket is divided by the total number of votes received by all tickets. Each ticket initially receives as many seats as it has whole numbers. Seats to be allocated thereafter are to be allocated to the tickets in the order of the highest numerical fractions resulting from the calculation. In the event of equal fractions, the election officer shall draw lots to decide. The seats then allocated to the individual tickets are allocated to the candidates on the tickets in the order of the number of votes they have achieved.
The election regulations and the supplementary provisions can be found in the official announcements of RWTH Aachen University.
Only solo candidacies are permitted in the election for the Geosciences & Georesources Student Council. Each voter has up to three votes, which they can distribute among three candidates. The candidates with the highest number of votes are elected.
The aforementioned procedure applies without restriction to elections to the representative bodies of the Faculties of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business & Economics and Medicine.
The student councils not listed here organise their elections independently.
